Vintage Clothing rocks Pretoria

Vintage clothing is alive and very sought after at The Vintage Square Thrift Fair, Duncan Yard, corner Prospect & Jan Shoba Streets, Hatfield, Pretoria.  The fair is held first Saturday of the month from 10:00 to 16:00. Take loads of cash with you as only a few stallholders have handheld bank machines.  You will be tempted to buy! But the good news is, the prices are less than the mall.

Are we there yet?

The crowd is very hipster and university student, with a smattering of trendy older style setters, like moi.  Variety of styles of clothing mostly 70’s upwards and all in good nick.  No smell of mothballs and no fur coats in sight (great to see ethical practices are being adhered to).

R10 – is this 1970?

A rather gorgeous faux pearl brooch (wrapped in a vintage dress pattern) and a very 70’s plastic geometric necklace winked at me.  Well, had to add them to my collection! Even though I suspect the necklace is more retro than vintage.  Who cares? I will rock it.

Choices, choices!
Mirror, mirror – do I look fabulous?

For the hungry & thirsty, 2 food trucks were serving pizza cones and hot dogs.  Looked delish but we’d just had a huge breakfast, so we skipped.  The only drinks were a coffee truck with very mediocre hot chocolate and chilled coffee. However, as you enter Duncan Yard, there are several restaurants and cafés.  Great live music with a guitarist/vocalist gave a festive ambience.

Will I visit again?  Definitely! Lovely way to escape reality for a few hours and find a very delectable piece!
